Report of week ending 9 July

Three wins and three losses for the Saturday League sides.

T Rippon Mid Essex Premier Division.  The 1st XI travelled to high flying Springfield 1st XI who batted first and scored 229-8, Ian Turnbull taking 4-38. The Rayleigh innings started disastrously scoring only 27 runs for the loss of 5 wickets against some fine bowling by Rob Wickham (5-26). Some big hitting by Joel Barnett (66) supported by Ian Turnbull for a seventh wicket partnership of 54 followed by sensible batting between Ian and Matt Gilmore left the 1st XI requiring 80 runs from the last 18 overs and a glimmer of hope of a miraculous escape but when Matt was out the remaining wickets fell quickly to fall short by 79 runs.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 2.  The 2nd XI hosted Havering-atte-Bower 1st XI who won the toss and inserted the home side who took full advantage of this decision and scored 235 all out, Kalpesh Patel (47), Dan Frost (45) and Craig Baird (38) top scoring. They then bowled Havering out for 140, Trevor Nunn taking 4-37 and Richard Abley 2-37 to give 2nd XI victory by 95 runs.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 5. The 3rd XI visited Little Waltham 2nd XI and batting first amassed 284-9 with Colin Mayor (34) and Daryl Ox (32) leading the scoring supported by everyone else including 51 extras. They bowled the hosts out for 169, James Wratten taking 4-40 and Elliot Ward 2-21.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 7. The 4th XI hosted Woodham Mortimer 2nd XI and electing to bat first scored 215-7, John Wright (54), Matthew Bumpus (37) and Mark Bailey (29). The visitors knocked off the required runs in the 43rd over for the loss of 3 wickets.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 8.  The 5th XI travelled to play Chignal and batting first scored 168 all out, Phil Hammond (51) and Matt Verrinder (36). T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 10. The 6th XI entertained top of the Division St John’s Billericay 2nd XI, who batted first and were 86-8 but an unbeaten ninth wicket partnership of 77 took their score to respectable 163, Lee Harding taking 4-29, Gary Bush 2-16 and Sam Lowe 2-44.
