Weekly report – 31st August 2019

Another disappointing weekend with a distinctly end of season feeling to it with only one win and five defeats for our Saturday league sides with nothing to play for in terms of possible promotion or relegation.

T Rippon Mid Essex Premier Division.  The 1st XI entertained high flying Rainham 1st XI and batting first were bowled out for 119, only Shaun Du Plessis (24) making any impression on the scoreboard. The visitors passed the target in the 25th over for the loss of two wickets. A disappointing end to the season finishing in 5th place in the Division.

Weekly report – 25th August 2019

A rather disappointing weekend with two wins and four defeats for our Saturday league sides and with one week of the League season to go the 2nd XI are relegated to Division 3 but all other teams are safely in mid table.

T Rippon Mid Essex Premier Division.  The 1st XI went to play Canvey Island 1st XI and batting first scored 205-8, Jason Ox (57) and Matt Verrinder (29) leading the scoring. This seemed a defendable total but Rayleigh found wickets hard to take and the home side passed the target in the 44th over for the loss of two wickets.

Weekly report – 4th August 2019

Weekly report – 21st July 2019

A weekend of mixed fortunes for our Saturday league sides with three wins and three losses.

T Rippon Mid Essex Premier Division.  The 1st XI went to Chelmsford to play top of the table Springfield 1st XI and losing the toss were invited to bat on a damp pitch under cloudy skies. These conditions proved ideal for the best bowling attack in the League and Rayleigh were reduced to 39-8 and were bowled out for 54 in the 22nd over. The home side knocked off the required runs in 8 overs but lost 3 wickets in the process. This was a disappointing end to a good run of victories.

Weekly report – 7th July 2019

Much improved availability and a better week with three wins, a tie and two defeats for our Saturday league sides.

T Rippon Mid Essex Premier Division.  The 1st XI travelled to Stock 1st XI and batting first amassed 289-7 Dan Frost 121 and Mark Acraman 38*.  This appeared to be a winning total at tea but with some wayward bowling conceding more than 50 extras and small boundaries the result was in doubt for much of the home side’s innings.  In the event Rayleigh squeezed home by 22 runs. Dan Frost taking 3-22 and Ian Bryant 3-44.

Weekly report – 14th July 2019

Another absorbing week of cricket with three wins and two defeats for our Saturday league sides, who had opposition.

T Rippon Mid Essex Premier Division.  The 1st XI entertained Aythorpe Roding 1st XI who batted first and were bowled out for 186 in the 39th over. Mark Acraman taking 4-38, Dan Frost 2-24, Aaron Acraman 2-32 and Ian Turnbull 2-35. Wickets fell regularly in the reply but a fifth wicket stand of 75 between Ben Francis (34) and Skipper Jason Ox steadied the innings but then three more wickets fell cheaply. An eighth wicket stand of 57 between Will Wheeler (35) and Jason revived the home side’s hopes but when two more wickets fell the game was in for a tense finish. With Rayleigh needing 2 runs to win with 1 wicket left Jason hit the ball in the air to offer a difficult chance to the visiting side but the catch was not taken. Jason (53*) hit the next ball for four to give Rayleigh a one wicket victory. Not quite the excitement of Lords but still nerve jangling.

Weekly report – 30th June 2019

A disappointing week with very poor availability (48 players unavailable and 7 injured). As a result there was only one win and five defeats for our Saturday league sides; this despite having the advantage of batting first in four of the six games on a very hot day.

T Rippon Mid Essex Premier Division.  The 1st XI travelled to Rainham 1st XI and batting first were 70-2 but a five wicket collapse saw the side reduced to 78-7 and a final total of 120. Nick Gosling (38) and Ian Turnbull (25). The home side had no difficulty passing this target, which they did in the 27th over with Richard Nolde taking 2-16.  This result leaves the team in 6th position in the Division at the hallway stage of the season.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 2.  The 2nd XI entertained Woodham Mortimer 1st XI and batting first totalled 255-7 in their 45 overs, Toby Turner (62), James Ellis (50) and Chris Frost (44*). This seemed a defendable score but dropping at least 8 catches enabled the visitors to pass the required score in the 42nd over for the loss of 2 wickets with the Woodham opener scoring 180*. This result leaves the team anchored to the bottom position in the Division.

Weekly report – 23rd June 2019

Mixed fortunes for our six Saturday League sides with three wins, a tie and two defeats.

T Rippon Mid Essex Premier Division.  The 1st XI entertained in form Canvey Island 1st XI, who elected to bat first. The visitors struggled against some tight bowling and fielding and were bowled out for 132 in the 43rd over, Ian Bryant taking 3-14. Ben Francis (58) and Jason Ox (28*) led the Rayleigh reply and they won in the 35th over for the loss of four wickets.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 2.  The 2nd XI travelled to play High Roding 1st XI, neither side having won a game yet this season. The home side batted first and scored 199-7 in their 45 overs, Chris Frost taking 5-59. Three players made useful contributions to the reply, Steven Lynch (62) Mark Acraman (57*) and Andy Impey (42) but requiring two runs off the last ball the batsmen were only able to run a single leg bye to finish as a tie on 199-8 leaving both teams still looking for a first victory this season.

Weekly report – 16th June 2019

A disappointing week after last week’s successes and much improved availability with two wins and three defeats for the five Saturday League sides in action. Still not scoring enough runs in most teams with one notable exception this week.

T Rippon Mid Essex Premier Division.  The 1st XI entertained Old Chelmsfordians 1st XI and elected to bat first. Four players scored 20 or more runs, Dan Frost (33), Will Nolde (26), Jon Cook (24) and Jason Ox (22) but no one was able to build a big match winning innings and the side was bowled out for 151. Once again this did not seem to be a competitive score. However, the visitors fared even worse at the crease and from scores of 17-3 and 49-7 their innings ended on an all out score of 82, Shaun Du Plessis (4-29) and Ian Bryant (3-22) to give the 1st XI a win by 69 runs

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 2.  The 2nd XI travelled to play Ingatestone 1st XI who batted first and scored 213-9, Chris Frost taking 3-58. As with the 1st XI four players scored 20 or more, Mark Acraman (35*), Will Wheeler (24), James Ellis (24) and Andy Impey (20) but the innings closed on 171-8 to leave the side still looking for a first victory.
