Report of week ending 3 September

Two wins and four defeats for our six Saturday League sides. However, a highlight was the 1st XI victory which ensured their position in the Premier Division for next season and another was a 38 ball hundred for Sam Verrinder in a friendly against a touring side.

T Rippon Mid Essex Premier Division.  The 1st XI hosted bottom of the table High Roding and batting first scored 247-9, Jason Ox (89), Joel Barnett (40), Will Nolde (33) and Ben Francis (31) leading the scoring. This target looked well beyond a mainly very young High Roding side and they were bowled out for 75, Luke Sullivan (4-14), Ian Bryant (4-24) and Matt Gilmore (2-11) taking the wickets. This result means the 1st XI finished in 8th place and will play in the Premier Division in 2018.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 2.  The 2nd XI visited Eastwood 1st XI who batted first and benefitting from a number of dropped catches scored 209 all out, Dan Frost taking 4-55 and Elliot Ward 2-43.  In reply Rayleigh were bowled out for 111, Steven Lynch 28 in three overs and Kalpesh Patel (28) top scoring.  They finish 4th in the Division.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 5. The 3rd XI entertained high flying Navestock 1st XI who batted first and were bowled out for 188, Will Wheeler taking 5-39. Rayleigh chased this target valiantly Will Wheeler (33), Darren Smith (30) and Matt Bumpus (27) leading the scoring but fell agonisingly short by 7 runs to finish 6th in the Division.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 7. The 4th XI travelled to bottom of the table Burnham Sports 2nd XI, who batting first scored 104-10, Sam Levett taking 3-13, Nick Green 3-16 and Richard Mantell 2-14. Report of Week ending 27 August

A look at the fixture list for the weekend suggested it would be a difficult week as most of the teams were playing high flying opposition and so it proved with heavy defeats for all six Saturday League sides. However, both the 3rd XI and 5th XIs who could have been relegated in their respective Divisions both avoid the drop due to results elsewhere.

T Rippon Mid Essex Premier Division.  The 1st XI travelled to Goresbrook 1st XI who batted first and amassed 290-4 with S Barwick scoring 154 not out. At 73-2, Ben Francis (44) it looked as though Rayleigh might make a respectable score in response but the introduction of Ochwo (9-27) into the attack signalled a dramatic collapse and they were bowled out for 102 in the 24th over. This result means the 1st XI must win in the final week to avoid relegation to Division 1.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 2.  The 2nd XI entertained top of the table Great Waltham 1st XI and scored 168-8, Chris Frost (48) and Adam Krise (42*), which target the visitors passed in the 29th over for the loss of 2 wickets, D Clout 114*.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 5. The 3rd XI visited Rainham 2nd XI who batted first and scored 216-8, Jai Patel taking 5-22. In reply Rayleigh struggled against tight bowling and fielding and ended on 99-7 in their 45 overs to lose by 117 runs.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 7. The 4th XI hosted Galleywood 2nd XI, who at one stage were 103-8 but an unbroken 9th wicket partnership took the visitors to 205-8, Tom Lopez 3-24 and Richard Mantell (2-21) the pick of the bowlers. In reply Rayleigh only managed to score 107 all out, Matt Walker (34*) top scoring.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 8.  The 5th XI went to play Canvey Island 2nd XI who batting first scored 148-9 Sam Lowe taking 2-12. This target proved beyond the 5th XI who ended on 79 all out with only Sam Lowe (29) making any impression on the bowling.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 10. Bentley 4th XI were the visitors to the 6th XI, who batted first and scored 109-10, Dave Turner (22). Bentley reached the target in the 23rd over for the loss of 2 wickets.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 8.  The 5th XI entertained top of the Division South Woodham Ferrers 2nd XI, and batting first scored 183-7. This score was founded on 39 from Matt Verrinder and Steve Rothon, who continued his excellent recent form scoring an unbeaten 82. He also shared an unbeaten partnership of 59 with Sam Levett for the 8th wicket. The weekend had a marvellous start when the Club hosted a Women’s Soft Ball Cricket Festival sponsored by the ECB and Essex County Cricket Board.  Approximately 100 women and girls attended and played three friendly games on four pitches spread around the outfield. The standard of play was excellent even though quite a number had never played cricket before but hopefully some of them will come to play cricket next year in the Essex Women’s Leagues.

In addition to the cricket there were other entertainments including a Bouncy Castle, Bucking Bronco, Sumo Wrestling and Water Slide followed by a live band to end the evening. Everyone who came seemed to enjoy the evening and thanks to all the people who organised the event and who were supported by excellent catering and bar staff. A brilliant evening.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 10. The 6th XI travelled to Broomfield 2nd XI who batted first and scored 210-3 in their 40 overs.
