Weekly report – 10th June 2018

Continuing poor availability and an inability to score runs quickly enough cost the club dear again with one win and five defeats for the Saturday league sides. Highlight was an excellent victory for the Under 16 XI in their first ever Trevor Bailey Matchplay competition game.

T Rippon Mid Essex Premier Division.  The 1st XI entertained Goresbrook 1st XI and batting first were bowled out for 147 in the 44th over, Andy Impey (43) and Will Nolde (31) leading the scoring. This total was never likely to be enough and the visitors passed their target for the loss of three wickets in the 33rd over, Ian Turnbull taking 2-35.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 1.  A very depleted 2nd XI travelled to high flying Great Totham 1st XI and batting first were bowled out for 127 in the 35th over, Darren Smith (41) and Luke Sullivan (20). The home side knocked off the necessary runs in the 20th over.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 5. The 3rd XI hosted Brookweald 2nd XI who batted first and scored 245-8 in their 45 overs, David Hall taking 3-39.  In reply Rayleigh made a great effort to chase down this total but gradually fell behind the required run rate and were bowled out for 218 in the final over, Owen Davies (58) leading the scoring supported by Daryl Ox (31).

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 7. The 4th XI went to neighbours Rayleigh Fairview 2nd XI, and batting first and finished on 160-10, Kalpesh Patel (35) top scoring.  The home side were bowled out for 87. Richard Mantell taking 5-36 and Jai Patel 3-22.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 8.  The 5th XI hosted Little Baddow 2nd XI who batted first and totalled 215-4, Sam Levett taking 2-29.  Rayleigh again found runs hard to come by and finished on 171-7, Phil Wolff (50) and David Cox (45) top scoring.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 10. The 6th XI travelled to Chelmsford to play a strong Beaulieu Park 2nd XI who batted first and put on over 200 for the first wicket and finished on 284-4, Andy Barker scoring 135 and Freya Barnard taking 3-35 off 5 overs. This target was way beyond the reach of the 6th XI and they were bowled out for 78 in the 22rd over, Kuldeep Paik (22) leading the scoring.

Beaumont Seymour League South Division. Rayleigh Women & Girls visited Maldon who batted first and scored 81-6, Kelly Castle, Louise Harmsworth and Louise Grimwood all taking 2 wickets.  Rebecca Holyoak (24*) and Kelly Castle (17) led the reply to win by 8 wickets. 

Trevor Bailey Under 16 Matchplay competition. Rayleigh travelled to play Chelmsford for their first ever appearance in this 40 over competition and batting first amassed 258-8, Jess Walker (101 retired) and Toby Turner (73) leading the scoring. They then bowled out the home side for 128, Cameron Mantle taking 4-26 and Ben Wheeler 2-10 to complete a memorable start to this competition.
