Rayleigh Under 11As played Thurrock U11As in the final of the South Essex District League in 20 over ‘Terrier’ match, where pairs of batters bat for 4 overs and if out lose 5 runs but stay batting for their 4 over quota. Each team starts with a score of 200 runs to avoid the possibility of a minus score. Rayleigh batted first and scored 290 for the loss of 3 wickets, net score 275. Some excellent bowling and fielding saw Thurrock lose wickets regularly and they finished on 257-7 net 222 to give Rayleigh victory by 53 runs in an excellent all round performance. Rayleigh U13 versus Rankins U13

at Rawreth Lane, Old Ground, June 30th 2013

League

Team: Adam Bailey, Joe Barnett†, Jamie Coleman, Alex Dawkins, Aaron Golstein, Jack Hadlow, Tom King, Tom Lopez, Kian Norton-Reeves, Craig Smith*, David Watts.

A lovely Sunny Sunday, 11 players and Rankins as opponents. Craig wins the toss and decided to bat.

Craig Smith and Joe Barnett opened the batting in their normal way. Craig hit the ball and missed the fielders  and retired on 25 not out. Joe started in the same way but found a fielder so was out, caught on 13. Alex Dawkins and Tom King were the next pair in, Alex (4) played more along the ground but was still out caught, Tom (1) tried a flashing shot (later claimed to be defensive), missed and was bowled. Adam Bailey and David Watts carried on with the stroke playing until out caught for 5 and bowled for 2 respectively. Kian Norton-Reeves displayed his ability with leg side deliveries hitting 2 for 4 and batted through to the end getting 9 not out. Jack Hadlow and Jamie Coleman were less successful getting out for 0, Tom Lopez and Aaron Golstein batted in the last over, Tom was run out going for a quick single whilst Aaron scored 1 not out. 91 for 7.

Rayleigh U13 versus Canvey Island U13 B

at Rawreth Lane, Old Ground, June 22nd 2013

Friendly

Team: Adam Bailey, Joe Barnett, Jamie Coleman†, Jack Collins, Aaron Golstein, Simon Hall, Tom King, Tom Lopez, Kian Norton-Reeves, Craig Smith*, David Watts.

Canvey Island B visited us at Rawreth Lane for a recently arranged friendly game. Craig Smith, captain, won the toss and decided to bat first.

Craig and Joe Barnett opened and prospered. Canvey’s bowling was a little short and with the ball bouncing both players were able to play their preferred cross-bat shots. There was not much running as both preferred to play strokes. This nearly caused a problem when Craig got a top edge, called for the run whilst Joe stood and watched to see if the catch was taken. It wasn’t, but neither was the run. Fortunately it didn’t disturb Craig much as he then hit a 4 to retire not out on 26.

Rayleigh U13 versus SOSEMT U13

at Rawreth Lane, Old Ground, June 16th 2013

League Game

Team: Adam Bailey, Joe Barnett, Jamie Coleman, Alex Dawkins, Aaron Golstein, Jack Hadlow, Tom King, Tom Lopez, Kian Norton-Reeves, Craig Smith*, David Watts.

SOSEMT visited us at Rawreth Lane for this week’s league game. Craig Smith, captain, won the toss and decided to bowl first.

Tom King and Jamie Coleman opened and from the off SOSEMT scored at over 5 runs an over with a 4 ball being offered, and accepted, in most overs. Alex Dawkins and Craig tried to hold SOSEMT back but despite a superb dismissal from Craig who hit the stumps directly to run out one of the openers, things continued well for SOSEMT. Both Tom Robinson and Harry Seaden retired not out with 25. Whilst the new batters still hit the bad ball we started to give extras away. Adam Bailey took a catch, which was nice, but the run rate kept climbing until SOSEMT finished on 145 for 3 – a third of which being extras. A steep ask given our recent batting performances.

Rayleigh Fairview U13 versus Rayleigh U13

at Rayleigh Sports & Social Club, June 9th 2013

League Game

Team: Adam Bailey, Liam Baker, Joe Barnett†, Jamie Coleman, Jack Collins, Alex Dawkins, Jack Hadlow, Tom King, Craig Smith*, David Watts, Edward Wright.

It was a cold morning in normally sunny Rayleigh as this derby took place.

Craig Smith, captain, lost the toss and we were put in to bat. Craig and Joe Barnett opened and looked to score when they could against some good bowling. They started with quick running when the keeper misfielded whilst trying to hit the bad balls. Unfortunately Craig quickly tried to hit a good ball and was out, caught, for 1 in the second over.

Rayleigh U13 versus Hadleigh U13

at Rawreth Lane, June 2nd 2013

League Game

Team: Adam Bailey, Joe Barnett†, Jamie Coleman, Aaron Golstein, Jack Hadlow, Tom Lopez, Kian Norton-Reeves, Craig Smith*, David Watts, Edward Wright .

Once again 10 players. This time because Tom King fell ill during the night before the match. Here’s hoping Tom recovers quickly.

Craig won the toss and chose to bowl feeling we are better chasing than setting a target. The opening bowlers were Tom Lopez and Aaron Golstein. Both started a little loosely both conceding 2 wides in their first overs. Tom followed this with a maiden and ended with 4-1-14-0. Aaron also improved and ended with figures of 4-0-18-0.

Westcliff on Sea u13 vs. Rayleigh U13

at Chalkwell Park, May 27th 2013

Team: Adam Bailey, Joe Barnett, Jack Hadlow, Tom King, Tom Lopez, Kian Norton-Reeves, Craig Smith*, James Taylor, David Watts.

Once again 10 players. Does the manager know we are allowed 11?

This was a Cup round against Westcliff, always a strong side, and having just scraped together enough players to get a side out it was going to be a challenge.

Craig won the toss and chose to bowl, opening with himself and Tom Lopez. Tom King was behind the stumps as Joe had an injured finger. I am sure Craig was disappointed with his form as he did not bowl as well as he has recently, however one must bare in mind that Westcliff have some good batters. Tom L was as good as normal but Westcliff were quickly into their stride and scoring freely.
