A week of mixed fortunes – 21st May

The 1st XI were treated to the harsh realities of life in the Premier Division being emphatically beaten by their visitors, High Roding, who batting first were bowled out for 211, Ian Bryant taking 3-44 and Jon Cook 2-23. Jon Cook (42) was the only Rayleigh batsman to trouble the High Roding attack as they slumped to an all out total of 84.

The 2nd XI visited High Easter and bowled the hosts out for 157, John Stirk taking 4-17 and Liam Druce 3-37. The 2nd XI knocked the runs off for the loss of 5 wickets, Darren Smith (41), Martin Sanderson (30) and Danny Frost (27*) top scoring.

The 3rd XI travelled to Writtle to play their 2nd XI, who batting first scored 229-3. The 3rd XI found the Writtle bowling, including a 1st XI bowler, too hot handle and were bowled out for 54.

The 4th XI entertained Rankins 3rd XI and batting first scored 244-9. The visitors were bowled out for 111.

The 5th XI were away to Great Baddow 3rd XI. The hosts batted first scoring 253-5, David James taking 4-35. Despite valiant defence by Andy Thurogood (35*) the 5th XI were bowled out for 100..

Other matches

Beaumont Seymour League South Division. The Women & Girls XI visited Great Waltham. Rayleigh were put in to bat first and they started well with Clare Fallis and Kelly Castle scoring 24 off the first 5 overs. Tight bowling slowed the scoring until Michelle King and Lorraine Frost came to the crease and made 35 runs in the the last 4 overs with some a few boundaries and kamikazee running. Rayleigh’s total of 87 was not adequate as Gt Waltham reached the total with 8 overs to spare and having lost 2 wickets. Player of the team nominated by the opposition was Francesca King.

South Essex District Cricket Board West Group. Rayleigh Fairview Under 15’s 78 all out, Jai Patel 2-8 off 3 overs. Rayleigh Under 15A’s 79 for 1, Christian Humphries 35 not out. Rayleigh win by 9 wickets

South Essex District Cricket Board Under 15B League. Rayleigh U15B 127 for 5 (20 overs) Nick Buckley 36 ret, Cameron Gray 22, Tom Peppiatt 21 not out. Old Southend/Southchurch U15B : 120 for 7 (20 overs) Sam Martin 2-10 off 4 overs Rayleigh won by 7 runs

South Essex District Cricket Board Peters Cup 2nd Round 20 over game. Rayleigh U13A 111 for 3, Max Jones 30 retired, Luke Sullivan 25 not out. Orsett scored 112 for 3 off 19.3 overs. Orsett won by 7 wickets

Friendly matches.

The Saturday 6th XI opponents entertained Old Chemsfordians 5th XI at Gloucester Park, Basildon. The visitors won the toss and scored 175-4 in their 40 overs, Davies scoring 72 and Luke Sullivan taking 3-24 of 10 overs. The 6th XI looked to be cruising to victory reaching 100 for the loss of 1 wicket after 17 overs. Some much tighter bowling slowed the scoring rate and the team finished 1 run short on 174-8. Jack Himpfen-Jones (62) scoring a maiden half century, Joe Gibbons (32) and Luke Sullivan (21) leading the scoring.

The Sunday XI travelled to East Hanningfield and batting first scored 218-5, Ian Bryant (102) and Callum Ginbey (42) being the main contributors to the total. In reply Herongate scored 187-9, Ian Bryant taking 3-4 and Paul Davies 3-33.
