Report of week ending 7 September

One win and two defeats in the Saturday friendlies and the Under 11As lose their final by 19 runs.

An XI captained by Mike Law hosted a Tillingham XI in a 40 overs game and batting first scored 266-7, Jon Cook (92) and James Ellis (32) top scoring. In reply Tillingham scored 244-9, Adam Keeley taking 2-9 and Steven Lynch 2-22.

An XI captained by Paul Davies hosted a Rettendon XI in a 40 overs game and batting first were bowled out for 139, only Tony Catling (49) troubling the bowlers. The visitors passed this score in the 38th over for the loss of 5 wickets.

An XI captained by Brad walker went to play an Eastwood XI in a 40 overs game at Belfairs Park. Batting first, Eastwood scored 253-4. In reply Rayleigh scored 203-6, Alan Brown (64*) and Tom Gosling (57) leading the scoring.

South Essex District Cricket Board Under 11 final. Hadleigh Under 11s won the toss and elected to bat on a misty morning. Some excellent stroke play and quick running between the wickets took them to 310-3 net score 295 to set a very demanding target. Rayleigh Under 11As, were never quite up with the run rate and despite valiant efforts by Matthew Bumpus and Adam Sullivan they finished on 301-5 net 276 to lose by 19 runs. Some excellent cricket was played by both teams and they were a credit to their clubs.
