Report of week ending 18th August

Three wins and three defeats for the six Saturday League sides.

The1st XI visited Great Baddow 1st XI who batted first and scored 207-9, Keith Sharp taking 4-23. I reply Rayleigh were bowled out for 146, Danny White (39) and Jamie Ewing (31) top scoring. This result leaves the 1st XI remaining bottom of the Premier Division.

The 2nd XI hosted Eastwood 1st XI and batting first were all out for 162, Danny Frost (56) leading the scoring. The visitors passed this score for the loss of 8 wickets, Anees taking 4-33.

The 3rd XI played top of the table St Johns Billericay 1st XI and batting first scored 208-6, Matt Lennox scoring 94. St Johns were bowled out for 188, Josh Jones taking 5-32.

The 4th XI entertained Burnham Sports 2nd XI and batting first scored 234-5, Simon Harwood (77) and Brad Walker (48*) and Steve Gosling (37). The visitors were bowled out for 159, Tom Gosling taking 3-33 and John Wright 3-49.

The 5th XI played Galleywood 2nd XI in a vital relegation game. Rayleigh batted first and scored 252-7, Matt Verrinder (59), Richard Verrinder (49) and Conor Slough (31*). They then bowled out the visitors for 98, Sam Martin taking 3-22 and Andy James 2-12. This result means they climb out of the relegation zone but are not yet safe.

The 6th XI went to top of the table Hornchurch Athletic 3rd who totalled 261-6, a score well out of reach for the 6th XI. With careful batting against accurate bowling Rayleigh only lost 3 wickets and a flurry of hitting by Owen Davies (30*) and John Attfield (26*) took the final score to 136-3.
