Report of week ending 14th July

Three wins and three defeats for the Saturday XIs. The Women & Girls XI narrowly lost the semi-final of their league.

The1st XI went to Aythorpe Roding 1st XI who batted first and scored 309-6. This target looked well out of reach given recent batting performances but in a valiant response, Rayleigh came up 12 runs short, Jason Ox (80), Marcus Cornish (65) and George Barker (44) leading the scoring.

The 2nd XI hosted Springfield 2nd XI and batting first and scored 200-9, Chris Frost (74) top scoring. They bowled the visitors out for 134, Mike Law taking 4-40 and Trevor Nunn 3-5.

The 3rd XI travelled to Brookweald 2nd XI, who totalled 233-4, Paul Davies taking 3-58, Rayleigh knocked the runs off in 31 overs , Steve Adams (100*) and Kalpesh Patel (84) leading the scoring.

High flying Great Wakering were the visitors to the 4th XI, who batted first and were all out for 184 with Phil Wolff scoring 53 and Simon Harwood 36. The visitors passed this total with ease for the loss of three wickets.

The 5th XI were at home to Havering-atte-Bower 3rd XI and batting first scored 165-7, thanks mainly to Luke Keeley (54) and Tony Catling (39). In a tight finish the visitors were bowled out for 157, Conor Slough taking 5-55 and Andy James 4-37.

The 6th XI travelled to Chelmsford to play Wickham 2nd and after a good start (Rebecca Holyoak 68) fell away to an all out total of 177, which the home side passed for the loss of three wickets.

The Women & Girls XI played the semi-final of the Beaumont Seymour League against Colchester at Kelvedon. Colchester scored 104 for the loss of 2 wickets. In reply Rayleigh scored 90-2, Kelly Castle and Sophie Lennox both retiring on 25*. A slightly disappointing result but the progress made this season has been excellent.

On Monday, the Under 15As played Westcliff U15s and batting first were 30-7 but Conor Slough (31*), Matt Dobson (19) and Craig Smith gave some respectability to the score to finish on 82-8. This was never going to be enough against a strong Westcliff team who won by 5 wickets in the 16th over, Conor Slough taking 2-6 off 4 overs.

On Wednesday, the Under 15As played Rankins U15 who batted first and scored 96-6, Mihir Patel taking 4-11 and Conor Slough 2-21. Losing early wickets another defeat looked a possibility but Conor Slough (33*) and Luke Sullivan (24) saw Rayleigh home by 4 wickets.

The Under 13s played against Westcliff U13s and scored 82-6 in their 20 overs, Criag Smith retiring on 27. Westliff passed this total in 7.4 over for the loss of 1 wicket.

The Under 11As played against Westcliff Under 11s, who batted first and scored 270-2 net score 260. Rayleigh scored 337-4 net score 317 to win by 57 runs.
