Report of week ending 16th June

Despite two rain interventions, five of the six Saturday games were finished with wins for the 1st and 3rd XIs.

The1st XI entertained Great Baddow 1st XI and batting first totalled 173-9 in a match reduced to 37 overs with useful late contributions from Matt Gilmore (31) and Mike Walsh (21*) bringing respectability to the score. The visitors also started badly but a mid order revival meant they needed 25 off the last 4 overs with 3 wickets left. Two crucial run outs saw Rayleigh home by 8 runs.

The 2nd XI travelled to Belfairs Park to play Eastwood 1st XI who batted first and scored 192 all out before heavy rain ended the game.

High flying Billericay St Johns 1st XI were the visitors to the 3rd XI who batted first and scored 215-8, Kalpesh Patel (73*) top scoring. They then bowled St Johns out for 159, Adam Dudmish taking 4-26 and James Wratten 3-46.

The 4th XI travelled to Burnham Sports 2nd XI who scored 146 all out, Josh Jones taking 4-21. Only Richard Verrinder (41*) troubled the scorers in difficult batting conditions as the team only reached 103-7 to lose by 43 runs.

The 5th XI were at Galleywood 2nd XI and despite a stong batting line up only managed to post 96-9 in a rain reduced match, which score the visitors passed for the loss of 4 wickets.

A mainly inexperienced 6th XI hosted Hornchurch Athletic 3rd XI, who asked Rayleigh to bat. Tight bowling reduced the 6th XI to 55-8 but the last two wicket added 51 runs with Owen Davies (24) top scoring. The visitors passed this score for the loss of three wickets..

The Women & Girls XI played top of the League Woodham Mortimer and scored 98 in their 20 overs, Rebecca Holyoak 26* leading the scoring. Woodham passed this score without losing a wicket.

The Sunday XI played Westcliff in the Warsop Sunday Leagueand batting first scored 232-9, Adam Keeley (55) and Sree (34) leading the scoring. In their reply Westcliff scored 200-9, Matt Gilmore taking 3-18 and Ian Bryant 3-36 to give rayleigh victory by 32 runs.

The Midweek XI played Rankins in the semi-final of the Southend Evening League Cup on Monday evening. Rankins batted first scoring 115-2, C Lees 54 and Greenfield 45. In reply Rayleigh scored 119-8, Matt Williams 35 and Keith Sharp 26*. The final will be played on June 25th at Southchurch Park against the winners of the match between Leigh on Sea or Great Wakering.

The Under 15As played Westcliff Under 15s in a 3rd round Peters Cup match and restricted a strong Westcliff batting line up to 100-5 in their 20 overs. At 73-2 off 14 overs a win looked likely but some excellent bowling brought about a collapse and the Under 15As subsided to 91-9 in a high quality game of cricket.

The Under 13s and the two Under 11 sides played against opposition from Southend Echo Monarch Trojans (SOSEMT).

SOSEMT Under 13s batted first and scored 145-3 and Rayleigh Under 13s scored 89-7, Joe Barnett (28*).

The Under 11As had a very close game scoring 306-8 (net 266) in their innings. SOSEMT Under 13s scored 288 for the loss of 4 wickets to win by 2 runs.

 

The Under 11Bs scored 265-4 (net 245) in their innings. In reply SOSEMT Under 11Bss scored 281-1 (net 276) to win by 31 runs.
