Report of week ending 9th June

In a complete reversal of fortunes the top five Saturday League teams all won.

The1st XI travelled to Old Chelmsfordians 1st XI who batting first were all out for 204, Keith Sharp taking 6-50 and Matt Gilmore 2-22 off 12 overs. Rayleigh passed this total for in the penultimate over for the loss of 7 wickets, Nick Gosling (40) and Matt Williams (37) leading the run chase.

The 2nd XI entertained Woodham Mortimer 1st XI and batted first scored 250-8, Jason Ox (90) and Adam Keeley (43) top scoring. The visitors were bowled out for 219, Mike Law taking 5-60.

The 3rd XI played a friendly against Wickford 4th XI as Margaretting have withdrawn from the League. Batting first the 3s were bowled out for 90, Adam Dudmish (26) but they then bowled Wickford out for 57, Mark Acraman taking 5-15 and Kalpesh Patel 3-7.

The 4th XI played Terling 2nd XI at home and scored 240-9, Phil Wolff (64) and Steve Adams (62) leading the scoring. They then bowled the visitors out for 98, James Wratten taking four wickets and Josh Jones three.

The 5th XI hosted St Andrews and batting first scored 194 all out, Luke Keeley (47). David James took 4-11 as St Andrews (with only 7 players) collapsed to an all out total of 65.

The only side to lose were the previously unbeaten 6th XI, who travelled to Rayne 2nd XI. The home side batted first and scored 255-9. In reply the 6th XI totalled 176-9, Duncan Bond (37) and Sam Martin (23).

A very inexperienced 7th XI played Westcliff Extra B XI, who batting first in a time game scored 206-6, Owen Brooks taking 2-15 off 10 overs in his first open age game. The 7th XI held out for a draw scoring 87-8, Rob Godfrey (25).

Having heavily lost to Old Chelmsfordians the previous week the Women & Girls XI played the return fixture at home on Friday and scored 104 in their 20 overs, Kelly Castle 28* and Sophie Lennox 23 leading the scoring. They then bowled OCs out for 27, Jodie Billett taking 4-10.

The Sunday XI returned to winning ways against Mount scoring 293-7, Jason Ox (75*). In reply Mount scored 231-7 in their 40 overs.

The Under 15As played Westcliff Under 15s in a 3rd round Peters Cup match and restricted a strong Westcliff batting line up to 100-5 in their 20 overs. At 73-2 off 14 overs a win looked likely but some excellent bowling brought about a collapse and the Under 15As subsided to 91-9 in a high quality game of cricket.

The Under 13s batted first against Rayleigh Fairview Under 13s and scored 92-7, Joe Barnett (22) and Alex Dawkins (22). Despite Jamie Coleman talking 4-18, Rayleigh Fairview passed the required total for the loss of 6 wickets.

The Under 11Bs had a very close game against Wickford Under 11Bs, who scored 294-5 (net 269) in their innings. Rayleigh scored 3 more runs but lost one more wicket to lose by 2 runs, Matthew Bumpus scoring 16*.
