Report of week ending 29 June

Three wins and three defeats for the Saturday League sides and a first defeat for the Women & Girls XI.

The 1st XI travelled to Burnham Sports 2nd XI and batted first on a pitch of uneven bounce. At 77-7, defeat was looking to be the likely result but the tail wagged and the 1st XI ended on 143 all out. Another excellent spell of bowling by Ian Turnbull taking 6 wickets saw the hosts all out for 97. This result leaves them 4th in the table at the halfway stage of the season.

The 2nd XI hosted Broomfield 1st XI, who batted first and scored 214-5 helped by a number of dropped catches. However James Ellis (91) and Steven Lynch (60) enabled the 2nd XI to pass the target for the loss of 5 wickets. This result moves them in 6th position in the table.

The 3rd XI entertained Great Walthan 2nd XI who batted first and scored 210-5. In reply nearly everyone started to build an innings but no-one delivered a good score and the innings subsided to an all out total of 180 all out, Alex Jones (31) top scoring. They are 4th in their Division.

The 4th XI visited Rainham 2nd XI and batting first scored 129-6 a target in a match affected by the rain with Conor Slough top scoring with 37. The home side passed for the loss of 3 wickets. They are 6th in their Division.

The 5th XI went to Great Totham 3rd XI who batted first in a match reduced to 41 overs per side and scored 102-8. Rob Wilson (77*) and Richard Verrinder knocked the runs off without losing a wicket. They are top of the Division.

The 6th XI played Great Baddow 4th XI at Rawreth Lane and batting first were skittled out for 72. The visitors reached their target for the loss of three wickets. This defeat leaves them in 8th place.

In a friendly a very young 7th XI travelled to play an equally young Chelmsford 6th XI who batted first and amassed 293-5. Jess Walker (56) and Steve Rothon (73) gave Rayleigh a flying start but few of the remaining batters contributed and they were bowled out for 165.

Without three of their strike bowlers the Women & Girls XI entertained Woodham Mortimer who scored 113-3 In reply Rayleigh scored 79-8 , Sophie Lennox retiring on 28 not out.

Colts

Batting first Rankins Under 15s scored 118-3, Owen Brooks 1-13 and Cameron MacDonald 1-14 off their 14 overs. In reply Rayleigh scored 92-4, Callum Bishop (18) and Elliot Davies (16*) top scoring.

Leigh Under 13A scored 156-4 in their 20 overs. In reply Rayleigh Under 13A scored 61-9.

Rankins Under 13B scored 156-3 in their 20 overs. In reply Rayleigh Under 13B were bowled out for 34.

Hadleigh & Thundersley Under 11s 281-4 net score 261. Rayleigh Under 11A scored 281-9 net score 236, Hadleigh & Thundersley won by 25 runs.

Rayleigh Under 11B 288-5 net score 263. Southend Echo Monarch Trojans Under 11B scored 308-11 net score 253, Rayleigh won by 10 runs.
