Only two wins for 2nd XI and 6th XI on 20th August

Needing to win at least two of their last three games to keep alive the slim chance of avoiding relegation the 1st XI visited Chignal 1st XI who elected to bat first. Rayleigh made a brilliant start to the game reducing the home side to 19-5. Some big hitting and erratic bowling thereafter enabled Chignal to recover to 134 all out but nevertheless this was a seemingly acheivable target. However Rayleigh collapsed to 95 all out leaving only a mathematical chance of staying in the Premier Division.

The 2nd XI entertained third placed Great Totham 2nd XI who batting first were all out for 105, Matt Gilmore taking 3-32 and Ben Stevens 2-24. Rayleigh passed this score for the loss of 4 wickets to remain top of the table, Steve Adams (36) and Andy Impey (27*) top scoring .

The 3rd XI were away to Rettendon 2nd XI and batting first were 155-7 in their 45 overs, James Wratten(32*) and Matt Verrinder(28). Rettendon passed this score for the loss of 3 wickets.

Visitors to the 4th XI Navestock and Ardleigh Green 2nd XI were unusually strong as their Shepherd Neame league sides had no games as their opposition had left that league. Batting first Rayleigh scored 233-6, Simon Harwood (51) and Hugh Kirby (48*). This score proved nowhere near enough as Navestock only lost one wicket in reply.

The 5th XI played Billericay St Johns 2nd XI and were all out for 104, Adam Keeley, Shaun Grob and Matt Jahanfar all scoring 24. Billericay passed this score for for the loss of 3 wickets.

The 6th XI visited Old Chelmsfordians 5th XI and chose to bat first and scored 176-6 in a game reduced to 35 overs because of heavy rain. Highlight of the innings was an unbeaten opening stand 111 between Chris Slough (70 retired hurt) and Matt Dobson (25), Luke Sullivan also contributed a rapid 20. Tight bowling throughout restricted the home side to 117-7, Mike Humphrey taking 3-16 and Matt Dobson 2-9.

The Sunday XI travelled to Tillingham who scored 239-8, Ian Bryant taking 2-24. In reply Rayleigh posted 243-7 led by Jason Ox (59*) and John Stirk (50) to win by 3 wickets.
