Belhus [A] 69-6
Rayleigh won by 62 runs
Rayleigh lost the toss and were put in to bat

Team: Conor S (capt.), Joshua J, Jordan J, Max J, James B, Matthew D

An unchanged team took the field in Grays for our final match before the half term break.

Behus won the toss and put us into bat. Conor changed the batting order but kept with Matt and Max as openers, a decision proved correct as both scored rapidly retiring together at the end of the 5th over with the score at 59. Conor had moved himself up the order and, this time, it didn’t work as he fell to the first delivery he faced. Jordan joined Joshua in the middle and together they built a partnership with Joshua retiring at the end of the 9th over with the score on 103. James was less fortunate being out second ball without scoring. Max returned, with Jordan, kept the score ticking up. The partnership was quite positive and we reached the start of the 12th over with only two wickets down and the score on 124. The final over was very dramatic: Max edged a ball to point and was caught, Matt returned and was run out, Jordan was caught as was Joshua. Four wickets fell in the final over but we’d made 131. Our highest total to date scored at nearly 11 an over.

Conor changed the bowling order as well, putting himself first as he “was angry”. He was able to focus his anger and picked up a wicket in his first over. Joshua and Conor kept it tight stopping Belhus scoring with accurate bowling. Joshua picked up a deserved wicket in the 4th over but was replaced anyway with Max and James coming on. Max bowled superbly picking up 2 wickets in two overs for 7 runs. James also bowled well conceding only 2 runs in his first over. He was a bit more wayward in his second over conceding 10 runs but ‘bought’ a wicket so finished with pretty good figures. Jordan had a couple of overs but couldn’t repeat the form of last week and was a bit expensive. Conor returned for a single over, and another wicket to give him figures of 14–2.

Max had taken the final wicket and Belhus A were bowled out in the 11th over for 69. A strong team performance which has taken us to third place in the League table. The two teams ahead of us have played 4 games to our three and we play Thurrock [A], the second placed side, next on Friday 12th. Conor has finished his period as captain undefeated, can Matt equal this in November?
