Weekly report – 26th May 2018

A particularly disappointing week for the Club with 30 regular players unavailable and every Saturday league side losing and the women’s team losing their first League game too.

T Rippon Mid Essex Premier Division.  The 1st XI entertained Rainham who batted first and started badly with 3 wickets down for 20 runs. However, the later batsmen recovered the situation well and the innings ended on 219-9.  Phil Everitt (56) gave the home side’s innings a good start but with some slow scoring thereafter the required run rate crept up. Ben Francis scored a rapid 37 and an eighth wicket stand of 50 between Ian Bryant (27) and Will Wheeler (23) appeared to give Rayleigh a chance of meeting their target but when they were both out the innings closed 17 runs short in the 44th over

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 1.  The 2nd XI travelled to top of the table Stock 1st XI who batted first and scored 225 all out, Jess Walker taking 4-40 and Dan Frost 4-48. Dan Frost (60) gave the 2nd XI a great start but had no support from anyone else and the innings fizzled out on 106 all out in the 24th over.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 5. The 3rd XI hosted Stock 2nd XI who batted first and scored 202-8 in their 45 overs, Mike Law taking 3-33.  In reply Rayleigh looked comfortable at 143-3 but lost 3 wickets for 3 runs to give the visitors the advantage and at the finish Rayleigh were bowled out for 194 in the last over to lose by 8 runs, Mark Bailey (63) and Martin Sanderson (39) leading the scoring.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 7. The 4th XI went to Woodham Mortimer 2nd XI, and batting first struggled to 143-8, Steve Gosling (33) top scoring.  The home team chased down this target for the loss of 4 wickets in the 42nd over, Matt Walker taking 2-23.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 8.  The 5th XI visited Canvey Island 2nd Xi who batted first and totalled 176-6, Cameron Mantle taking 3-33 and Andy James 2-24.  Rayleigh found runs very hard to come by and didn’t score a single boundary in their reply finishing on 131-5, Simon Lennox (46) and Alan Brown (38) top scoring.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 10. Oaklands 1st XI came to Rawreth Lane to play a very depleted 6th XI, who batted first and scored 150-7 in their 40 overs, Ray Hart (49) and Richard Verrinder (46) leading the scoring. The visitors passed this target with ease in the 23rd over for the loss of 1 wicket, Peter Kettley scoring 105*.
