SEDCB Thurrock U14 Indoor Sixes Competition 2009-2010

Starting way back in November last year and variously interrupted by snow and volcanic ash, this U14 indoor cricket competition finally came to it’s conclusion on Monday 28th June when Rayleigh met Orsett in a title decider at The Grays School.

After 8 games each against the likes of Horndon, Belhus, Stanford-le-Hope, Basildon and Grays it all came down to the final league fixture – a match originally scheduled for Easter-time but held over when the volcanic ash incident meant some players and coaches would be missing.

Batting first Rayleigh made 71 all out in 10.2 of the 12 overs available – our worst effort of the competition! But accurate bowling backed up by superb fielding including Luke K’s one handed diving catch from a deflected drive saw Orsett bundled out for just 45 and a win by 26 runs.

What was originally intended as a means of keeping the lads ticking over during the winter months and encouraging good habits, turned into a very competitive event and to win all 9 matches was a fantastic achievement by all those who played for Rayleigh over the months. So well done to all of the following: Sam L (Capt), Sam M, Matt J, Matt D, Luke K, Luke S, Josh J, Josh C, George, Hugh, Aaron, Conor and  Nick.
