T Rippon Mid Essex Premier Division.  The 1st XI entertained Goresbrook 1st XI and batting first were bowled out for 151 in the 40th over. Jason Ox (78) held the innings together but no one else was able to stay with him to build a defensible target and the situation was not improved as Jon Cook had to retire hurt when a ball went through the visor on his helmet and broke his nose. The visitors were always up with the run rate and they won by 6 wickets in the 35th of their permitted 50 overs, Will Nolde taking 2-19.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 2.  The 2nd XI travelled to top of the table Great Waltham 1st XI and were bowled out for 106, which target the hosts passed in the 19th over for the loss of 1 wicket.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 10. A relatively inexperienced 6th XI went to Bentley to play their 4th XI, who batted first and scored 178-6 in their 40 overs, Lee Harding taking 2-24 and Sam Lowe 2-39. The 6th XI put up a spirited reply with Paul Cox (50) scoring a maiden half century aided by Sam Lowe (29) and Billy Thirkettle (28) to finish 18 runs short of victory.

Report for week ending 18.6.17

Four wins and two defeats for the Saturday League sides.

T Rippon Mid Essex Premier Division.  The 1st XI travelled to Great Baddow 1st XI and elected to bat. At 58-4 this did not bode well for the rest of the innings. However, Jon Cook (69) and Under 15 Jess Walker (31) making his debut for the 1st XI put on 88 for the 5th wicket and supported by Matt Lennox 40* and the rest of the tail chipping in Rayleigh finished on 247 all out in the 45th over.  The hosts were always behind the required run rate and they were bowled out for 137 in the 40th over, Ian Bryant 3-20, Luke Sullivan 2-25 and Ian Turnbull 2-30 being the pick of the bowlers. This result was a welcome return to winning ways but still leaves the side in a relegation spot.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 2.  The 2nd XI entertained Terling, who batting first scored 169-10, Richard Abley 3-28, Sam Verrinder 3-46 and Chris Frost 2-33. Only Chris Frost (41*) mastered the bowling and the innings subsided to an all out score of 90.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 8.  The 5th XI visited East Hanningfield 2nd XI who batting first scored 145-8 in their 40 overs, David Hall 4-21 (and 3 catches) and Andy James 3-24 being the pick of the bowlers. Mark Stratton (52) and Richard Verrinder (30) led Rayleigh to a three wicket victory.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 10. South Woodham Ferrers 3rd XI were the visitors to the 6th XI and batting first and scored 188-7 in their 40 overs, Phil Wolff taking 2-28 and Mark Calloway 2-39. At 50-4 after 20 overs a Rayleigh victory looked extremely unlikely but Steve Rothon (86*) and Gary Bush (32) had other ideas and the winning runs were scored with three balls to spare.

The friendly 7th XI fixture was cancelled as Havering 3rd XI were unable to raise a side.

Beaumont Seymour Women & Girls Cricket League.  The team played at Hutton and batting first Rayleigh scored 89-10, Rebecca Holyoak (28*). Hutton were bowled for 61, Emilia Krise taking 4-8 and Kelly Castle 4 -16.

Report for week ending 11.6.17

A disappointing weekend with two wins and four defeats for the Saturday League sides and failure of our batting to achieve fairly moderate targets

T Rippon Mid Essex Premier Division.  The 1st XI entertained neighbours Rettendon 1st XI who batted first and scored 169-7 in their 45 overs, Luke Sullivan taking 3-37.  An opening stand of 50 between Adam Vyse (35) and Jason Ox (20) gave Rayleigh a promising start but the side collapsed to an all out total of 117 to give visitors victory by 52 runs.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 2.  The 2nd XI visited Goresbrook 2nd XI, who batting first scored 164-8, Chris Frost taking 3 wickets.  Only Callum Ginbey (43) mastered the Goresbrook bowling and the innings ended 12 runs short on 152.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 5. The 3rd XI hosted Writtle 2nd XI who batting first were bowled out for 149, Steve Adams taking 3-22 and James Wratten 3-32. This total proved too much for the 3rd XI who only managed to score 89, Mike Law 25* leading the scoring.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 7. The 4th XI went to Beaulieu Park to play Wickham who scored 214-7 in their 45 overs, Tom Godfrey taking 2-43. John Wright (63*) and Matt Walker (39) broke the pattern of the day and steered Rayleigh to a 5 wicket victory in the 44th over.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 8.  The 5th XI were at home to unbeaten Rainham 3rd XI and batting first scored 163-8 in their 40 overs, Mark Stratton (75) and Phil Wolff (28) top scoring. In a tense finish Rainham were restricted to 162-8 to give Rayleigh victory by 1 run, Aby Jose 3-28 and David Hall 2-39 were the pick of the bowlers.

Rippon Mid Essex League Division 10. The 6th XI went to Boreham 2nd XI who batted first and scored 222-7 in their 40 overs, Jack Himpfen -Jones taking 5-47. In reply Rayleigh were bowled out for 99.

Friendly fixture, a very young and inexperienced 7th XI played Westcliff 4th XI at Wickford Memorial Ground. The youngsters bowled and fielded extremely well and bowled Westcliff out for 108, Callum Mayfield and Paul Cox both taking 2-10 and Jack Andrews 2-17. The Rayleigh innings started well reaching 41-1 but the introduction of the Pitchforth Brothers into the attack reduced Rayleigh to 49-9, Alex Pitchforth taking 6-2 off 6 overs.  A last wicket stand of 23 added some slight respectability to the final total of 72.

Beaumont Seymour Women & Girls Cricket League.  The team hosted Great Waltham and batting first Rayleigh scored 129-3, Sophie Lennox (28), Rebecca Holyoak (26) and Louise Harmsworth (25) all retired. The visitors scored 110-7 in their 20 overs, Rebecca Holyoak taking 3-27.

South Essex District Cricket Board Under 15 West League.  Rayleigh Dragons played Belhus and batting first scored126-8 in their 20 overs, Will Wheeler (29) and Toby Turner (25) top scoring. South Essex District Cricket Board Under 15 East League. Rayleigh Eagles played Leigh. Rayleigh batted first and were bowled out for 82, a target Leigh passed for the loss of 1 wicket in the 10th over.

Report of week ending 4 June.

A better weekend with four wins and two defeats for the Saturday League sides despite poor availability with a large number of players unavailable due to holidays

T Rippon Mid Essex Premier Division.  The 1st XI travelled to Brookweald 1st XI and batting first scored 222-8, Jason Ox (84) and Will Nolde (24) leading the scoring. The home side seemed quite comfortable having only lost one wicket after 20 overs but the introduction of Ian Bryant (4-41) into the attack made it a more interesting contest. Wickets continued to fall but Brookweald only needed 10 runs with two overs and two wickets left. However, 2nd XI captain Chris Frost (2-7) remained calm and took the last two wickets to give team a welcome victory by 8 runs and lift the Club off the bottom of the table.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 2.  The 2nd XI hosted Chadwell Heath 1st XI. Adam Krise captaining a team for the first time invited the visitors to bat and they scored 139-9 in their 45 overs, Richard Abley taking 3-8 off 10 overs, Sam Verrinder 2-32 plus two catches and Lee Brown 2-22. Adam Krise (34*), Adam Vyse (34), Callum Ginbey (23) and Daryl Ox (30*) took Rayleigh to victory by 7 wickets in 26 overs.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 5. The 3rd XI visited Hornchurch Athletic 2nd XI who batting first and totalled 181-6, Mike Law taking 2-48.  Rayleigh were bowled out for 139, only Toby Turner (49) mastering the bowling.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 7. The 4th XI entertained Hatfield Peverel and batting first scored 161-8 in their 45 overs with Mark Bailey (41) top scoring and Tony Catling (34*). In reply the visitors were bowled out for 150, Tony Catling taking 3-29 and John Wright 3-35.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 8.  The 5th XI went to Springfield 4th XI and scored 209-9, Matt Verrinder (92) and Mark Stratton (34). Springfield scored 177-8 in their 40 overs, Mihir Patel taking 5-20 and Mark Stratton 2-35.

Rippon Mid Essex League Division 10. Oaklands were the visitors to the 6th XI and batting first were bowled out for 141 in 35 overs, Lee Harding taking 3-19 and Jack Himpfen-Jones 3-22. This total proved too much for Rayleigh who subsided to an all out total of 119.

Friendly fixture, The 7th XI played Chelmsford 6th XI at Lake Meadows, Billericay. Chelmsford batted first and scored 142-9, two features of the innings being that 8 bowlers were used and all took 1 wicket with Senith Fernando taking 2-16 and some incredible fielding by Jon Chase returning to the club after 7 years.  He also top scored with 24 as the team were bowled out for 71.

Beaumont Seymour Women & Girls Cricket League.  The team were away at Kelvedon but the journey took more than 2 ¼ hours due to a broken down tanker and subsequent accident on the A12. It was agreed to play a 10 over game and Rayleigh batted first and scored 80-0, Kelly Castle (27) and Rebecca Holyoak (25) both retired. This looked to be a winning total but quick running by Kelvedon and poor fielding by Rayleigh allowed Kelvedon to reach 84-1 in the final over.

South Essex District Cricket Board Under 15 West League.  Rayleigh Dragons faced Orsett & Thurrock for the second week running at their ground this time. Orsett scored 105-8 in their 20 overs, Jess Walker taking 3-25 and Jack Andrews 2-25. In a close finish Rayleigh won in the last over having lost 7 wickets, Jess Walker (35 retired), Sam Perks and Elliot Ward both scoring 20.

South Essex District Cricket Board Under 15 East League. Rayleigh Eagles played Rankins at Rawreth Lane. Rayleigh batted first and scored 82-8, Elliot Ward (22). Rankins passed this total in the 13th over without losing a wicket.

Report of week ending 21 May

One win and five losses for the Saturday League sides. Almost all matches were played with a reduced number of overs on wet pitches and in these circumstances it is best to win the toss and field first but in all but one game the toss was lost and Rayleigh were asked to bat.

T Rippon Mid Essex Premier Division.  The 1st XI travelled to last year’s Champions Bentley 1st XI and were put into bat. With four rain interruptions Rayleigh struggled to build a competitive score only Ben Francis (41), Jason Ox (29) and Will Nolde (24) making any impression against accurate bowling and the innings closed on 141-7. The home side knocked the runs off in the 22nd over for the loss of 1 wicket.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 2.  The 2nd XI entertained Bentley 2nd XI and batting first were bowled out for 87, Shaun Duplessis (32) and Chris Frost (21) being the only batsmen to make double figures. Bentley passed this score for the loss of 3 wickets in the 23rd over.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 5. The 3rd XI were away at Great Wakering 1st XI and batting first were bowled out for 77.  The home side reached their target in the 17th over for the loss of two wickets.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 7. St Andrews were the visitors to the 4th XI and losing the toss were invited to bat first and were bowled out for 117, Jai Patel taking 4-16.  Rayleigh were unable to capitalise on their advantage and collapsed to an all out score of 86, Brad Walker (31).

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 8.  The 5th XI visited Navestock 2nd XI and scored 163-4 in a game restricted to 34 overs, Mark Stratton scoring 100*. In a close finish Navestock ended on 150-4 to give Rayleigh their only victory of the day

Rippon Mid Essex League Division 10.  The 6th XI hosted Broomfield 2nd XI, and batting first totalled 123-9 in their 40 overs. Broomfield passed this total for the loss of 6 wickets in the 38h over.

Beaumont Seymour Women & Girls Cricket League.  The game against Old Chelmsfordians was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch.

Friendly fixture. The 7th XI hosted Great Waltham 3rd XI, and batting first were skittled out for 22, their cause not helped by two unnecessary run outs and two batsmen playing on. The visitors knocked these runs off without loss.  A second T20 game was more evenly balanced and Great Waltham won this by 45 runs.

Under 15 SEDCB Peters Cup. 3rd round. Rankins batted first and scored 91-4, Will Wheeler taking 2-9 and Elliott Ward 1-12 each off 4 overs. Rayleigh found runs much harder to come by than in the first two rounds against good bowling and wickets fell regularly.  However, Will Wheeler scored 25 and Rayleigh eased home at the end of the 19th over having lost 8 wickets.

Under 11 SEDCB East League. Rayleigh Eagles 266-6 net score 236, Leigh on Sea 2 267-5 net score 242.

Leigh on Sea 2 won by 6 runs.

Report of week ending 14 May 2017

Three wins and three defeats for the Saturday League sides.

T Rippon Mid Essex Premier Division.  The 1st XI travelled to Old Chelmsfordians 1st XI who batted first and scored 222-8 in their 45 overs, Ian Bryant, Matt Gilmore and Will Nolde all taking 2 wickets. The Rayleigh reply stared disastrously losing 4 wickets for 16 runs.  Stands between Ben Francis, Joel Barnett (42), Jason Ox (68) and Ian Bryant (30) brought an unlikely win into prospect but the visitors fell short by 13 runs with 10 balls left.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 2.  The 2nd XI entertained Little Waltham 1st XI and batting first totalled 262-8, Dan Frost (97) and Chris Frost (61*) leading the scoring. At 100-8 the visitors looked to be well beaten but a 9th wicket stand of over a hundred brought the visitors back into the game and some big hitting from the final pair took them even closer. However, needing 40 from the last three overs they were eventually dismissed for 232 in a highly entertaining game. To complete a highly successful personal performance Dan Frost took 5-40.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 5. The 3rd XI were away at St Johns Billericay 1st XI who batted first and were bowled out for 144, Elliot Ward taking 3-31 and Adam Sullivan 3-48.  In reply Rayleigh were bowled out for 103 with Daryl Ox (29) and Adam Sullivan (22) top scoring.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 8.  The 5th XI visited South Woodham Ferrers 2nd XI who scored 229-6 in their 40 overs. An opening partnership of 124 between Richard Verrinder (71) and Alan Brown (57 retired hurt) gave Rayleigh a promising start but after their departure the side got further and further behind the required run rate and the innings closed at 193-5.

Rippon Mid Essex League Division 10.  The 6th XI hosted Galleywood 3rd XI, and batting first totalled 171-6, an injured Phil Wolff scoring 90*. A really tight finish ensued with Galleywood falling short by 4 runs also having lost 6 wickets.
