ECB - Helmet safety guidelines http://rayleighcricketclub.org.uk/index.php/news/730-helmet-ecb-safety-guidelines http://rayleighcricketclub.org.uk/index.php/news/730-helmet-ecb-safety-guidelines

The ECB have re-issued their helmet guidelines as shown below

ECB Guidance Note: Safety measures for helmets within recreational cricket.

The ECB has recently announced new helmet safety measures, which are being introduced with a view to reducing the risk of head and facial injuries within the game. The purpose of this brief note is to assist Leagues and Clubs at the recreational level to understand the key elements of these changes and what they mean.

Players over the age of 18

The ECB strongly recommends that all adult recreational cricketers should wear helmets for certain activities, preferably which meet the most recent British Safety Standard (see below). This recommendation applies to batting against all types of bowling, wicket-keepers standing up to the wicket (who may as an alternative wear face protectors) and fielders fielding closer than eight yards from the batsman’s middle stump, except behind the wicket on the off side.

Under 18s

The position in relation to u18s currently remains unchanged, and is governed by the ‘ECB Guidance on the Wearing of Cricket Helmets by Young Players’ (www.ecb.co.uk/youngplayershelmetguidance).

In essence, batsmen and wicket-keepers standing up to the stumps must wear head protection when playing or practising. That Guidance should be referred to in full for the position in relation to u18s.

British Safety Standard

The latest British Safety Standard is BS7928:2013 (for both adults and juniors). The full list of helmets meeting this standard is available at www.ecb.co.uk/helmets. For wicket-keeping face protectors the relevant British Safety Standard is BS7929-2:2009 (again, for both adults and juniors).

The ECB understands that there is currently no specific women's helmet and as a consequence no specific standard for women's cricket helmets. As the size of the standard women's cricket ball is between the standard men and junior balls, it is recommended that women use helmets that have been tested against both the men's and junior sized ball, or at least against the junior size ball (as that could potentially get through the gap above the face guard on a men's helmet).

What do Leagues and Clubs need to do?

Whilst it is strongly recommended that all adult recreational cricketers wear helmets in the on-field circumstances detailed above, it is not mandatory for them to do so. For the avoidance of doubt, Leagues or Clubs do not need to go above and beyond the ECB’s recommendation by forcing their cricketers to wear helmets. However, Leagues and Clubs in recreational cricket should ensure that their cricketers are made aware of the ECB’s above recommendation in relation to helmets, including the need to check that any newly purchased helmets meet the latest British Safety Standard.

The ECB recommends that Leagues and Clubs bring the link above (i.e www.ecb.co.uk/helmets) to the attention of their cricketers and encourage all cricketers to carefully consider their own health and safety regarding helmet use. Leagues and Clubs should always ensure that they have adequate public liability insurance.

ECB - February 2016

Report of week ending 29 August http://rayleighcricketclub.org.uk/index.php/news/720-report-of-week-ending-29-august http://rayleighcricketclub.org.uk/index.php/news/720-report-of-week-ending-29-august

Two wins and three defeats for the Saturday League sides including two last ball finishes. The 1st XI are promoted and the 3rd XI and 5th XIs relegated.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 1.  The 1st XI entertained Aythorpe Roding 1st XI needing 2 points to secure promotion to the Premier Division.  Rayleigh batted first and totalled 266-6 in their 45 overs, Andy Impey (72), Ben Francis (66) and George Barker (49) leading the scoring. The visitors made a spirited reply and were up with the required run rate until the ninth wicket fell and they finished 26 runs short on 240 all out, Chris Frost taking 3-33 and Rhys Howard 2-31. This result means the 1st XI return to the Premier Division.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 2. The 2nd XI visited Great Waltham 1st XI who batted first and scored 182-6, Adam Keeley taking 2-6 and Sam Law 2-28.   Sree (66) and Sam Law (49) led the reply but needing 3 runs off the last ball of the match Sam was out leaving the 2nd XI short of their target by 2 runs. The 2nd XI finished 8th in the table.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 5. The 3rd XI hosted Rayne 1st XI needing to win to have any chance of avoiding relegation to Division 6. Rayne batted first and scored 286-2.  In reply Rayleigh were bowled out for 124, Alan Brown (34) and Darren Smith (20) top scoring.  The 3rd XI are relegated to Division 6.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 8. The 4th XI visited Hatfield Peverel 2nd XI who batted first and scored 183-7, Chris Houghton taking 3-44 and John Wright 3-45.  At 141-7 victory looked unlikely but Chris Houghton (56*) had other ideas and needing one run of the last ball he hit a four to ensure a win for the 4th XI by 2 wickets. The 4th XI finished 4th in the table.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 10.  The 5th XI travelled to top of the table Canvey Island 2nd XI needing to win to have a slim chance of avoiding relegation to Division 11 but were bowled out for 85, which target the home side passed for the loss of just one wicket. The 5th XI are relegated to Division 11.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 12.  The 6th XI were due to play Chelmsford 6th XI in a friendly having completed their League fixtures but unfortunately Chelmsford were unable to raise a side and it was not possible to find a replacement fixture.   The 6th XI finished 8th in the table.

South Essex District Cricket Board Under 13B East Division.  Rankins Under 13B 108-3 off 18 overs.

Rayleigh Under 13B Wyverns 100-3.  Cameron Mantle 12*, Harry Bailey 10.   Rankins won by 8 runs.

Two wins and three defeats for the Saturday League teams.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 1.  The 1st XI travelled to Bentley 2nd XI, who batted first and totalled 252-5. Rayleigh were looking on their way to a comfortable win after 30 overs but a middle order collapse meant a last ditch scramble to win by 2 wickets with 2 balls to spare.  Andy Impey (96) and George Barker (59) were the main contributors to Rayleigh’s innings.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 2. The 2nd XI entertained Rayleigh Fairview 1st XI, and batting first scored 202-9. Adam Keeley (40), Chris Frost (33) and Matt Verrinder (33) top scoring.  The visitors passed their target in the penultimate over having lost 7 wickets, Sree taking 4-52.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 5. The 3rd XI went to play Great Waltham 2nd XI, and batting first scored 178 all out, Kalpesh Patel (49) and Luke Sullivan (38) top scoring.  The hosts passed this target for the loss of 8 wickets, Josh Jones taking 2-40.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 8. The 4th XI entertained Terling 2nd XI, who batted first and scored 244-4, Liam Harrold taking 3-61.  Owen Davies (48), John Wright (44), Brad Walker (42) and Adam Krise (42) all contributed to another tight finish, Rayleigh winning in the last over having lost 5 wickets.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 10. The 5th XI hosted Springfield 4th XI and were bowled out for 145, Paul Burgess (40) and Mark Bailey (23).  The visitors knocked off the runs for the loss of 2 wickets.

The 6th XI were due to play Eastwood 4th XI but they were unable to raise a side and the game had to be cancelled

Report of week ending 16 August http://rayleighcricketclub.org.uk/index.php/717-report-of-week-ending-16-august http://rayleighcricketclub.org.uk/index.php/717-report-of-week-ending-16-august

Two wins and four losses for the six Saturday League sides.and defeat for the Women & Girls XI in their League final.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 1.  Third placed 1st XI entertained top of the table Rettendon 1st XI and were invited to bat.  Ben Francis (81) and Andy Impey (43) shared a partnership of 108 for the first wicket with Rhys Howard (25), George Barker (25), Matt Jahanfar and Sam Verrinder keeping the score moving to reach a total of 262 all out in the 45th over.  At 85 without loss after 11 overs the visitors looked on course for an easy victory but an accurate spell of bowling by Ian Bryant (5-32 off his 10 overs) changed the course of the game and Rettendon were bowled out for 197. This result lifts the 1st XI into second place in the table with a key game against Brookweald 1st XI next Saturday in the chase for promotion to the Premier Division.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 2. The 2nd XI visited Writtle 1st XI who batted first and scored 195-8, Kelly Castle taking 4-32.  Adam Dudmish (51) and Kelly Castle (34) led the reply but the 2nd XI fell short of their target by 17 runs. The 6 points picked up in the game ensure the side will remain in Division 2 next year.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 5. The 3rd XI hosted St John’s Billericay 1st XI in a game both sides needed to win to avoid potentially dropping into the relegation zone. Rayleigh batted first and at 102-5 off 30 overs looked unlikely to set a competitive target. However some powerful hitting by Alex Jones (99) took the home side’s score to 234-7. Disappointingly this score was not enough and Billericay passed their target for the loss of 7 wickets leaving the 3rd XI perilously close to the relegation zone with games against the top two sides in the Division remaining.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 8. The 4th XI visited Willow Herbs 2nd XI who batted first and were bowled out for 114, Liam Harrold taking 3-15. Steve Gosling (42) and Owen Davies (34) helped steer the 4th XI to a 6 wicket victory.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 10.  The 5th XI travelled to Rayne 2nd XI and batting first scored 138-8, Tom Peppiatt (25), Ian King (24) and Glenn Coleman (22) top scoring.  The home side passed for the target with the loss of two wickets.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 12.  The 6th XI were due to play South Woodham Ferrers 3rd XI but with 53 players unavailable for a variety of reasons, disappointingly the Club was unable to fulfil a League fixture for the first time ever.

The Women & Girls XI travelled to Lawford Lane, Chelmsford to play Colchester in the final of the Beaumont Seymour League and batting first lost 3 early wickets and struggled to a score of 69-7 in their 20 overs, Sophie Lennox (18) top scoring.  Colchester passed this target in the 11th over for the loss of 2 wickets.  Nevertheless it was an excellent achievement to reach the final.

The cricket week was quite badly affected by the weather losing the Thursday game altogether and Friday’s game being curtailed to a 20:20.  The Club lost quite heavily to a young Galleywood XI on the Tuesday but had a good win on the Wednesday against Old Victorians with George Barker scoring a century. On Sunday the President’s XI scored 208-8, President Brad walker scoring 48 and Richard Mantell taking 3-32. Batting second the Club XI fell short by 4 runs on 204-8 in the last over with both Jon cook and Steve Gosling retiring on 50.  Thanks to Brad and Sue for organising the whole week and to Ken Field for allowing the club access to his swimming pool during the weekend.

Report of week ending 22 August http://rayleighcricketclub.org.uk/index.php/718-report-of-week-ending-22-august http://rayleighcricketclub.org.uk/index.php/718-report-of-week-ending-22-august

Two wins and four defeats for the Saturday League teams.  With 14 regular players unavailable from the first three teams availability for the lower sides was poor once again.  However we did manage to field 6 sides this week.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 1.  The 1st XI travelled to Brookweald 1st XI, who had some impressive wins in recent weeks and batting first after losing an early wicket they scored quickly off the first 10 overs.  However Ian Bryant (5-30) and Sam Verrinder (4-21) reduced the home side to an all out total of 133.  Rayleigh cruised to a comfortable win with Jason Ox (47*), Ben Francis (36) and Any Impey (26*) leading the scoring.  This win means the 1st XI need 2 points from next week’s final league fixture to secure promotion to the Premier Division as runners-up.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 2. The 2nd XI entertained top of the table Rainham 1st XI, who batted first and totalled 185 -10, Danny Frost taking 4-35. Will Nolde (89) and Chris Frost (29) led the reply and Rayleigh passed their target in the penultimate over having lost 8 wickets.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 5. The 3rd XI went to play Galleywood 1st XI, and batting first were bowled out for 103, James Wratten (21) top scoring.  The hosts passed this target for the loss of 3 wickets.  This result leaves the 3rd XI in the relegation zone with next week’s fixture against top of the Division Rayne 1st XI.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 8. The 4th XI entertained high flying Wickham 1st XI and batting first totalled 193-8, Brad Walker (78) top scoring.  The visitors passed this score for the loss of 6 wickets, John Wright taking 3-43.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 10. The 5th XI hosted Havering Atte Bower 3rd XI in a game to decide who would almost certainly be relegated.  The 5th XI were bowled out for 85, which target the visitors knocked off for the loss of 1 wicket.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 12. A very inexperienced 6th XI travelled to Margaretting to play a similarly weakened Galleywood 3rd XI. Batting first Rayleigh were bowled out for 120 in the final over, Chris Slough (65) leading the scoring. Using a number of bowlers who had rarely bowled in a league match before, Rayleigh made the home side work hard for their win which they did eventually by 5 wickets.

South Essex District Cricket Board Under 13B East Division.  Rayleigh Fairview Under 13s 102-5. Aaron Unsworth 2-14 and Emilia Krise 1-13 each off 4 overs.  Rayleigh Under 13B Wyverns 61-8.   Rayleigh Fairview won by 41 runs.
